New York Rangers Highlights: Rangers explode for three goals in the first against Penguins (GIFs)
The Rangers turned back the clock to May 2014 with the Penguins visiting New York.
When it rains, it pours.
The Rangers managed only one goal Sunday against the lowly Oilers, losing their second game in as many days. But Tuesday is a different day.
Playing the Penguins for the first time since erasing a 3-1 series deficit in last year's Eastern Conference semifinals, the Rangers came out of the gates flying, and scored three times in the game's first 20 minutes.
While the Rangers had Pittsburgh hemmed in deep from the onset, and were generating tons of chances, Marc-Andre Fleury was standing tall early. Then, out of nowhere, Derek Stepan won an offensive zone faceoff back to Mats Zuccarello who beat Fleury over the glove.
Just over 2:30 later on the clock, a Marc Staal shot was stopped by Fleury, and Rick Nash shoveled the rebound over to Martin St. Louis for the easy tap-in.
Capping the scoring for the period for the Rangers was Kevin Klein, who netted his third of the season after Kevin Hayes got his own rebound and found Klein at the point. Klein remains the only Rangers defenseman with a goal on the season.
