Morgan Barron Named ECAC Hockey Player of the Year
On Wednesday Morgan Barron was named a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award, and today he was named ECAC Hockey’s Player of the Year.
An elite playmaker. A dynamic goal-scorer. A relentless back-checker. There was nobody better than Morgan Barron this season.

The New York Rangers drafted Barron in the sixth round of the 2017 draft, and it is fair to say his stock has continued to rise since being selected.

Barron had 32 points (14 goals, 18 assists) in 29 games this season for the Big Red. He averaged 3.55 SOG/GP and 12 of his 18 assists were primary. Barron is tied for sixth in scoring in the ECAC this year, but is the only player from an ECAC school among the 10 finalists for the 2020 Hobey Baker.
This year, he became the first Cornell player since Joe Nieuwendyk to be named All-ECAC Hockey first team. Barron has led the Big Red in scoring in each of the last two seasons.
The upcoming 2020-21 season would be Barron’s senior year, and the 6’2”. 209-pound forward will turn 22 this December.
