Rangers Radar: Day breaks through

Sean Day scored his first AHL goal last weekend

It’s time for another week of Blueshirt Banter’s Rangers Radar, where we put the spotlight on trends in performance and production and collect notes on players on the New York Rangers and the Hartford Wolf Pack, as well as Rangers prospects playing elsewhere.

New York Rangers

  • In four games against the Carolina Hurricanes this season Pavel Buchnevich buried three goals, 13 shots on goal, and notched a secondary assist. Buchnevich now has six points in his last seven games and is three goals shy of matching his goal total from the 2017-18 season.
  • Vladislav Namestnikov has scored three goals in the last three games, including an empty netter against the Buffalo Sabres. Prior to this recent outburst of offense, Namestnikov had zero goals and just one assist in the 20 games he played between Dec. 29 and Feb. 12./
  • Since Jan. 15 Mika Zibanejad has notched seven multi-point games for the Rangers. He had 11 multi-point games in 72 games last season. Zibanejad has scored 14 of the Rangers last 45 goals.
  • Connor Brickley’s fortunate goal against the Carolina Hurricanes was his first goal in 19 NHL games. Brickley now has two points in his first three games with the Rangers.
  • Tony DeAngelo now has assists in four straight games (and five total assists in that window). This is the longest point-scoring streak of his Rangers career, it also ties a four-game scoring streak he had in his rookie season with the Arizona Coyotes./

Hartford Wolf Pack

  • Sean Day (81st overall, 2016 Draft) scored his first career AHL goal in the Wolf Pack’s 4-3 OT loss at the hands of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Sunday. Day broke through on the power play in his 25th career game in the AHL. He also picked up a primary assist in the game./
  • Vinni Lettieri now has goals in three straight games since his return to the Wolf Pack on Feb. 13. He now has 31 points in 32 games with Hartford this season.
  • Steven Fogarty (72nd overall, 2011 Draft) also has goals in three straight games for Hartford. The 25-year-old center is having a career year in the AHL with 14 goals in 44 games; he scored 16 goals in his first 132 games in the AHL. Fogarty will be a UFA at the end of the 2018-19 season.
  • Ryan Lindgren (49th overall, 2016 Draft) has been skating on a pair with John Gilmour. He notched the second two-point game of his AHL career on Saturday in Hartford’s OT loss against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Lindgren now has five assists in his last nine games.
  • Defenseman Darren Raddysh had nine primary points at even strength in 54 games with Rockford before the Rangers dealt Peter Holland to the Chicago Blackhawks to acquire him. The only defender on Hartford who has put up more primary points at evens than Raddysh this season is John Gilmour who has 18 in 54 games./
