Rangers vs. Flyers: Henrik Lundqvist Left Out to Dry as Flyers Down Rangers 7-4

For the second time this month, the New York Rangers have lost four games in a row and they did so today in pretty embarrassing fashion. Henrik Lundqvist was on an island all by himself in the crease this afternoon as the Rangers were thoroughly dominated by the Philadelphia Flyers. The seven goals allowed in today’s contest were the most goals allowed by Lundqvist this season, just 24 hours after being pulled from the contest against the Ottawa Senators.

Despite the horrific coverage in front of the net and the defensive zone in general, the Rangers were able to keep pace with the Flyers through the first 40 minutes of this game. The two teams traded goals on four separate occasions before Travis Konecny eventually broke the game wide open late in the second period.

Claude Giroux put the icing on the cake near the midway point of the third period with an absolute snipe, and Jori Lehtera added insult to injury a short time later to make it a 7-4 final at Madison Square Garden. As the trade deadline approaches next week, the good news for the Rangers is that their most prized trade assets are continuing to play at a high level despite the overall poor play of the team.

Rick Nash tallied his 18th goal of the season this afternoon, and while Michael Grabner didn’t register a point, he had another solid game generating chances with his lightning quick speed. While these next few weeks will likely be tough to endure, all eyes will be on the Rangers heading into next Monday as they look to completely restock the franchise for the future.

Following this weekend’s back-to-back set, the Rangers will have an extended break until Thursday before another set of back-to-backs against the Montreal Canadiens and Minnesota Wild.
