New York Rangers News: Lombardi, Kostka, Kampfer, and Desjardins all to waivers
Matthew Lombardi, attempting to make an NHL comeback, was placed on waivers on Sunday.
On Monday, the Rangers will officially make their final round of cuts, but on Sunday, the team made a few moves that make the roster picture a bit clearer. According to Renaud Lavoie, the Rangers placed Matthew Lombardi, as well as three other players on waivers.

With Kostka and Kampfer out of the picture, Matt Hunwick will begin the season at the team's seventh defenseman on the NHL roster. Desjardins was a player who was obviously going to be sent down, as the team is set in the crease with Henrik Lundqvist and Cam Talbot.
Lombardi was hampered during preseason with a groin injury that derailed any moment he had, and forced him out of practice and games. Should a team put in a waiver claim on Lombardi—or any of these waiver players for that matter—it would resolve the Rangers 50 contract issue, and free up room for Anthony Duclair to remain in New York.
