New York Rangers Rumors: Rangers And Hurricanes Engaged In Talks For Eric Staal
The New York Rangers and Carolina Hurricanes are engaged in some serious negotiations for Eric Staal, and some details are starting to leak out.
With a little over 24 hours until Monday's 3:00 PM trade deadline, the New York Rangers and Carolina Hurricanes are engaged in heavy trade talks for Eric Staal. According to Bob McKenzie, the Hurricanes are seeking a first round pick in the deal for Staal, while the Rangers are trying to avoid including it all together. Given that the Rangers recently sent their 2016 first round pick at last year's deadline for Keith Yandle, it's no surprise they are holding back a bit.
However, the scary part is the fact that the Rangers have met the Hurricanes demands for the second part of their asking price. The previous rumors stated the Hurricanes wanted a high pick, a younger roster player, and an intriguing prospect. With the recent hold up on the inclusion of a first round pick, we can only assume the Rangers have agreed in principle to the rest of the deal.
That being said, it appears as if the Rangers are fully committed, and given the constant rumors, it seems like it's only a matter of time before Staal is New York bound. As of right now, Staal is scheduled to play for the Hurricanes this afternoon in Raleigh, but that could change quickly if the Rangers agree on a deal.
We will continue to monitor the situation and update with any changes.
