Rangers sign Greg McKegg to a one-year deal

Veteran depth forward Greg McKegg is back in the New York Rangers organization.
Chris Johnston is reporting that McKegg has signed a one-year, two-way deal with the Blueshirts for $750k. McKegg was in the Boston Bruins organization last season, scoring one goal in five games with the Bruins.

McKegg was with the Rangers for the 2019-20 season. In 53 games that year, he scored five goals and notched four assists for the Blueshirts. That season, he averaged 9:34 TOI/GP and had a success rate of 49.3 percent on the faceoff dot. McKegg had no points in three postseason games against the Carolina Hurricanes, another one of his former teams, that year.
All told, McKegg has 190 games of NHL experience and 324 games of AHL experience. Originally a third-round pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs (62nd overall, 2010 Draft), the label of fringe journeyman forward fits McKegg like a glove. He turned 29 in June.
Expect McKegg to provide a veteran presence for the Wolf Pack in the AHL and to compete for a role on the fourth line or as the 13th forward with the Rangers in training camp. Remember, this is a known commodity for the Rangers, so it is interesting that they’d bring McKegg back. In the AHL, he’s averaged 0.60 Pts/GP so he could provide a scoring punch in the minors while still making a guaranteed $350k.
