Rangers sign prospect Karl Henriksson

New York signs its fifth player to an ELC since March 3

Per CapFriendly, the New York Rangers have signed Karl Henriksson the 58th overall pick of the 2019 Draft, to an entry-level contract. Henriksson, 20, had a goal and six assists in 44 games with Frölunda HC in the SHL.

A center, Henriksson has 54 games of SHL experience over four years. He’s won gold with Sweden at the IIHF U18 Worlds in 2019 and bronze at the IIHF U20 Worlds in 2020.

This is the fifth prospect the Rangers have signed since the club inked Braden Schneider to an entry-level contract. The Rangers also extended the contract of AHL forward Johnny Brodzinski yesterday, who has been productive for the Wolf Pack this year. Brodzinksi signed a one-year deal worth $750,000. The Rangers also signed AHL defenseman Mason Geertsen to a two-year, two-way deal worth $1,450,000.

As easy as it is to overlook some of these signings, this is definitely an interesting trend that suggests that the Rangers want these kids in their system. If nothing else, the Rangers could have a new crop of prospects in Hartford next season that they will have a great deal more control over. For a team that is focused on building and developing its own young talent, this makes a lot of sense.
