New York Rangers Trade Jimmy Vesey to Buffalo for 2021 3rd Round Pick
The New York Rangers have made a trade prior to the free agency period opening at noon, and it appears as if they will be clearing some cap space to go shopping.
OFFICIAL: #NYR have acquired a third-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Jimmy Vesey.

The Rangers have sent Jimmy Vesey to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for a 2021 third-round draft pick. There is also no salary retained in the deal, so Buffalo will assume Vesey’s entire $2.275 million cap hit for next season.
Artemi Panarin has been the rumored target for quite a while, and with the Rangers still seemingly in pursuit of the Russian winger, this move certainly raises some eyebrows. As it stands right now following the trade, the Rangers will have approximately $20 million in cap space remaining with Vesey heading to upstate New York. However, as per CapFriendly, the number mentioned above still includes Matt Beleskey on the active roster.
The free agent frenzy kicks off in less than an hour, and with the Rangers expected to be active in some capacity, be sure to check back here for updates throughout the day.
