New York Rangers rumors: Blueshirts eying Carolina defenseman Andrej Sekera?
With the Rangers blue line even more depleted after Saturday night, the Rangers are reportedly looking at a Hurricanes defenseman.
The situation on the Rangers blue line went from perhaps dire to tire-fire last night in the course of half a period of hockey. Already down two regulars in Dan Boyle and John Moore, New York lost another third of its defensive corps Saturday night when Kevin Klein suffered a foot contusion after blocking a shot, and Ryan McDonagh separated his left shoulder after an Evander Kane check.
Even with McDonagh and Klein in, there will still some questions regarding the Rangers defensive group, while anything that was being asked is certainly a bit louder and more urgent now. And in the wake of all of this, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet is reporting the Rangers have interest in acquiring a defenseman.
Couple notes from our news segment: NYR -- with McDonagh/Klein hurt tonight -- believed to have interest in Sekera (CAR)...

Andrej Sekera's name has been one that's been floated in potential trades before, and he's on the final year of a four-year, $11 million contract that carries a $2.75 million cap hit. It's a contract the Rangers could eat right now without even sending any money back, and it's also important to note that should McDonagh miss an extended period, and he could land on long-term injured reserve, providing more cap relief, at least in the short term.
We're still waiting on any potential updates on the status of McDonagh and Klein today, who were both reportedly scheduled for MRI's, and we'll update those situations as soon as the information is available.
