Rangers Recall Lias Andersson from Hartford Wolf Pack

The New York Rangers have recalled Lias Andersson from the Hartford Wolf Pack.

Andersson has appeared in 14 games with the Pack this season, and has scored four goals and added eight assists for 12 points. Last year he spent 25 games in Hartford and finished with five goals and nine assists for 14 points. According to Prospect-Stats, nine of his points have been primary as opposed to the seven he recorded last season.

The above is a long roundabout way of saying that his production thus far is a vast improvement given the amount of games played, and he’s coming along as expected. With Andersson back in New York, it will be interesting to see how David Quinn deploys him.

The Rangers have been running Mika Zibanejad, Kevin Hayes, Brett Howden and Filip Chytil primarily down the middle.

Howden left Sunday’s game vs. the Buffalo Sabres with an injury, but on Monday he said he felt good and was taking things day to day, so this move likely doesn’t impact him too much in the interim.

Chytil, on the other hand, is averaging just 12:37 a game, and his last games have seen him skate 9:53, 10:05. 8:53, 10:09 and 11:03 respectively. He has some solid underlying numbers, but he simply hasn’t gotten the results on the score sheet.

Circling back to Andersson, the Rangers No. 7 overall pick from 2017 averaged 11:57 a game in seven games under Alain Vigneault, and you would have to imagine the Blueshirts will want to use him in a regular role. At the Rangers’ town hall, Jeff Gorton talked about Andersson and hoped that when he was brought back to New York it would be for the final time.

Hopefully that is the case, and the team isn’t yanking him from a top line situation in Hartford for no reason only to send him back in a week or so. Stay tuned for more information on the situation as it becomes available.
