Rangers Score 6 Against Flyers to Extend Win Streak to 6 Games

The New York Rangers have won 6 in a row! Tonight they defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 6-3, and did so with some contributions from unexpected sources. For starters, both Ryan Lindgren and Jacob Trouba scored on an empty net to earn their 1st goals of the season.

Jaroslav Halak made 29 saves to pickup his 2nd win as a member of the Rangers. K’Andre Miller scored one of the best goals of the season on a breakaway, and both Barclay Goodrow and Jimmy Vesey stayed hot by scoring their 7th and 6th goals of the year respectively.

Some of the usual suspects chipped in to, Artemiy Panarin and Mika Zibanejad to be specific, and overall it was a nice team win. For those who didn’t watch live, the Flyers got an early lead with a goal by James van Riemsdyk at 7:11 of the first. Panarin would answer for the Rangers toward the end of the period to make it 1-1, and it remained that way until the 2nd period.

Miller scored a beauty of a goal after being tripped on a breakaway which likely would have resulted in a penalty shot, but he picked himself up and continued on his way to the net and tucked in past Carter Hart.

Barclay Goodrow added another goal just over 3 minutes later, and Chris Kreider seemingly made it 4-1, but it was determined the puck didn’t cross the goal line. A penalty was taken by the Flyers, and the Rangers had a chance to go up 4-1 again, but an errant back pass by Panarin resulted in a 2-0 break for the Flyers and a shorthanded goal for Scott Laughton.

It was a bit of a deflating swing for the Rangers, and they ended the 2nd period up a goal with 20 minutes to play in order to secure a win which could extend their winning streak. The Rangers struck first in the 3rd period with Vesey scoring his 6th of the season.

But the Flyers answered quickly with Morgan Frost’s 5th of the season coming just 1:31 after Vesey’s. Play would remain 4-3 for a good chunk of the 3rd period, and the Flyers had a chance to tie it late when they went on the power play with under 4 minutes left to play. Half way into the power play the Flyers pulled Hart, and Trouba fired the puck the length of the ice into the empty net.

Later on the Flyers pulled their goalie again and Lindgren cleared the puck up ice and when Kaapo Kakko attempted to put it into the net he had his stick broken resulting in a goal being awarded for breaking up a clear and obvious scoring chance with the goalie pulled. Lindgren was last to touch, so he got the goal. The Rangers are in action again tomorrow vs. the Chicago Blackhawks, and they will look to extend their win streak to 7.
