NHL News: Nino Niederreiter Seeking Trade From New York Islanders
Highly touted prospect Nino Niederreiter is requesting to be traded from the New York Islanders according to ESPN New York. He is unhappy with the current situation and says he would be best suited elsewhere.
According to Katie Strang of ESPN NY, highly touted New York Islanders prospect Nino Niederreiter is requesting to be traded. This comes as quite a surprise and a bit shocking to say the least. The reason for the trade request boils down to Niederreiter not getting a shot to crack the Islanders roster after leading the Bridgeport Sound Tigets in scoring during the lockout. Niederreiter was the Islanders 1st-round draft pick back in 2010, and had 19 goals and 17 assists in 36 games with the Sound Tigers this season.
I don't know about any of you guys, but I would absolutely love to have this kid as a part of the New York Rangers. Sure, it may be a long shot to trade with the Islanders, but who knows? But what would it take? I'm thinking something similar to the deal the Rangers made with the Calgary Flames for Tim Erixon. Sure, they were under a strict deadline to get a deal done, but the cost was just right.
The way I see it, it would take a mid-level prospect along with at least a second or third round draft pick. Again, this is likely a long shot, but why not toss the idea around?
What do you guys think?
