NHL News: Patrick Kane is arrested
As if things in Chicago couldn't get any worse tsn.ca is reporting that Patrick Kane was arrested Saturday night after assaulting a cab driver. Obviously someone is very worried about their contract status. Here are the highlights from the story:
Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane was charged with attacking a cab driver in his home town Sunday, a beating police said was triggered when the driver did not have 20 cents in change to give the player and his cousin.
Buffalo police said the 20-year-old Kane and his 21-year-old cousin, James Kane, had apparently caught a cab from the city's downtown nightclub district at about 4 a.m. ET. The cab driver suffered cuts to his face and his glasses were damaged, police spokesman Michael DeGeorge said.
Both men were charged with felony robbery and misdemeanour counts of theft of services and criminal mischief. Patrick Kane, who earned US$875,000 last season, pleaded not guilty in local court Sunday, WIVB-TV reported. It was not immediately clear when James Kane will appear in court.
Man has Chicago had a bad off season or what. First there is the RFA issue which resulted in Chicago having to sign two RFA's for more money and years then they may have wanted to. Then there comes the NHL investigating the Hossa contract because both sides may have "come to an agreement that Hossa would retire before the contract was up." And now star youngster Kane is arrested and charged with a felony before the season even starts.
All this comes on the heels of Chicgo parting with former star Martin Havlat on horrible terms in which he smashed the Blackhawks for how they dealt with him. Oh yeah and they had an overthrow of their front office. Gosh, and people said the Rangers had a bad off season.
Too bad I was rooting for the Hawks through the post season, I really liked their team. Thoughts?
Update: Mad props to Steeeve for finding this link to the ways that Kane could have spent the $1.20 that he assaulted the cabby for. It's incredibly funny.
