Pavel Buchnevich does his best Peter Forsberg, adds a goal and two assists (GIF)
It's been a while since we last checked in with Pavel Buchnevich. On Monday, we had plenty reason to.
Pavel Buchnevich must have gotten sick and tired of hearing about how great Anthony Duclair is.
When the KHL season began, all Buchnevich could do was find the scoresheet, and with Rangers training camp just having kicked off, the scales of popularity were shifting from Duclair to Buchnevich.
But as the preseason schedule began, Duclair began lighting the lamp to the tune of three goals in five games, leading to him making the 2014-15 Rangers. So while fans and management alike had their eyes focused on the 19-year-old in New York, Buchnevich simply needed to do something to win the attention back.
And that he did.
On Monday, Buchnevich's Severstal team was in KHL action, and took down Metallurg 7-3. Having not scored in his last six games, Buchnevich made up for lost time, netting a goal (which we'll get to), and adding two assists, making him again a point-a-game player again with six goals and six assists in his first 12 KHL games of the season.
Buchnevich, like Duclair, is still only 19 years old.
