The Rangers have a few forwards who are battling injuries including Mika Zibanejad, Michael Grabner and Jesper Fast who will be out for 2-3 weeks with a separated shoulder. Bringing back Buchnevich makes perfect sense.
Before being sent down to the AHL Buchnevich was a healthy scratch for three consecutive games. The purpose behind him being sent to the minors was to make room for Steven Kampfer on the roster and to get the winger “a few games”. Before being assigned to the Wolf Pack Buchnevich was used sparingly at even strength on the fourth line by Alain Vigneault. It was not a role that the rookie could succeed in.
Now that Buch is back on Broadway it will be interesting to see what role he plays tonight against the Bruins. There will be more than a few Rangers fans who will be keeping an eye on his ice time and deployment.
