Potential Trade Partners: Ottawa Senators
The Rangers and Senators have done business with each other many times. Fifteen times throughout the team's history to be exact. Could they be a match for a trade again?
Whether you’re a Bob Dylan fan like myself or more of an REO Speedwagon person, the times they are a’ changing and you gotta roll with the changes. Now full disclosure, I wrote the majority of this article towards the end of last week, prior to the Jacob Trouba trade. Things have certainly changed since then as it doesn’t appear Chris Drury will be in a rush to make another move. Although after Monday Night's showing, perhaps he should be. Nevertheless, it’s still worth mentioning that the Ottawa Senators are a team of high interest and one that the Rangers have some history with.
In February of 2023, the Rangers sent Ottawa Julien Gauthier and a conditional 7th round pick in exchange for Tyler Motte’s second tour of duty in New York. Prior to that, the Rangers sent them a project in Vlad Namestnikov in the Fall of 2019 for Nick Ebert and a 4th round pick that turned into Kalle Vaisanen. In 2018, the teams completed a pick swap that helped the Rangers draft K’Andre Miller and who could forget the Derrick Brassard for Mika Zibanejad blockbuster of 2017? Although not sure how many folks are still raving about that one as of late..
Point is, the Rangers and Senators have done business with each other many times. Fifteen times throughout the team's history to be exact. Remember Karel Rachunek? How about Alexandre Giroux? Real ones remember Colin Forbes, I was unstoppable with him in NHL 2002 on PlayStation 2. Anyway, there’s reason to believe the team’s are in conversations with each other once again which is certainly intriguing.
