Pre-Season Game #6: New York Rangers at New York Islanders Open Thread
We’ve made it to the final game of the preseason, and tonight will serve as a final tune up before the New York Rangers head to Washington, DC to square off with the Capitals. The Rangers and Islanders will faceoff in Bridgeport, CT, and the Rangers will look to put out a better performance than their prior contest vs. the Isles which ended in a 4-0 shutout loss.
The final roster is pretty much set in stone, but this afternoon the team recalled Greg McKegg from Hartford, which could mean that a few regular will be skipping tonight’s game. Morgan Barron and Dryden Hunt remain with the main squad, and I’d bank on those three dressing in place of some skaters who don’t need additional action this evening.
We don’t have a mock lineup yet, but I am sure someone will post it in the comments at the time it goes live. With that said, here’s a prognostication on a player to watch in the Rangers’ final game of the preseason.
Player to Watch: Alexandar Georgiev
Georgiev is expected to go the full distance, just like Igor Shesterkin did vs. the New Jersey Devils, and its an important game for the Bulgarian backup. It has been a rough camp and preseason for Georgiev, and he’s running out of time to prove that he can still be counted on to spell Shesterkin when needed. He’s in the final year of his contract, and if he’s unable to keep the team in games it is possible Keith Kincaid will get a look, or the team could make a deal for a competent veteran backup. Ending on a high note is important for Georgiev, and hopefully that can continue into the regular season set to get underway on Wednesday.
Enjoy the game!
