Pregame and Game Thread: New York Riveters vs. Buffalo Beauts
The Riveters and Beauts will be playing each other for the first time tonight at Aviator Sports and Events Center in Brooklyn.
At the beginning of November, the New York Riveters and Buffalo Beauts were each without a win in the inaugural NWHL season. Since then, the New York Riveters have secured two wins against the Boston Pride and will enter tonight seeking to seize a three game winning streak. Buffalo has remained where they began, still winless as the season approaches December. However, the Beauts have improved and are better than their one point in the standings, earned in a shootout loss to Connecticut last week, show.
The two teams will finally meet tonight. There may be some new faces in the Riveters lineup tonight due to injuries, but no official word has been released on the roster. The Beauts have improved their lackluster power play so it will be important for the Riveters to stay out of the penalty box, which has been a recurring issue.
The Riveters stole their last game thanks to a quick barrage of offense and stellar goaltending from Nana Fujimoto. The majority of the game was played in their end with Boston controlling the play and putting the pressure on. It will be interesting to see how New York responds following such a hard-fought win, especially in their first game against a struggling team tonight.
