Preseason Game #5: New Jersey Devils vs New York Rangers Open Thread

After dropping their first exhibition contest of 2024 in Neawrk 24 hours ago, the scene with shift to Manhattan as the Rangers host the New Jersey Devils to conclude this home and home set.

With the majority of New Jersey's "A" team already in Prague for the season opening games on Friday, both the Rangers and Devils opted to dress "B" teams on Monday and will do so again tonight. With two days off following tonight's contest, the Blueshirts are likely to make a large round of roster cuts in the days following tonight's game before returning to the ice to wrap up the preseason on Friday, so this will be the final occasion most of tonight's lineup pull the famed Rangers sweater over their heads.

Player to Watch: Adam Edstrom

After drawing into 11 NHL games over two different stints on Broadway last year, Edstrom entered training camp seeking to crack the opening night roster. While Edstrom was something of long shot when camp opened, a strong showing through four games as well as an injury to Jimmy Vesey has made Edstrom much more likely to begin his 2024-25 campaign in New York rather than Hartford. Keep an eye on Edstrom as he looks to bolster his case for a lineup spot.
