Preseason Game #6: Boston Bruins vs New York Rangers Open Thread
The Blueshirts are set for their final dress rehearsal of training camp tonight as they’ll welcome the Boston Bruins into town for one final preseason tilt. The Bruins and Rangers opened the preseason against each other, with the Bruins earning a 3-0 victory up in Boston. That loss was the start of a trend for New York, as it has gone 1-4-0 in exhibition contests and will be looking to wrap things up on a high note.
Tonight also marks the final opportunity for players on the fringe of the roster to make their case for a spot on the opening night squad. 25 plays remain in camp with the Rangers, and the team will make two or three more cuts in the days following tonight in order to lock the roster in place for the season opener next Thursday in Buffalo.
Player to Watch: Kaapo Kakko
While most of the attention will be on the fringe players fighting for roster spots, Kakko is another player worth keeping an eye on. As one of the more versatile pieces Peter Laviolette has available to him in the lineup, Kakko has the potential to be slotted up and down the lineup. Keep an eye on Kakko, more specifically his deployment tonight, in what could be a preview of his regular season usage.
Enjoy the game!
