Preseason Game #6: New York Rangers vs New York Islanders Open Thread
The final game of the exhibition slate is upon us. The New York Rangers' season opener in Pittsburgh is less than a week away, and tonight's contest against the New York Islanders will serve as the final tune up before the games start to count in the standings.
Injuries to Artemiy Panrin, Jimmy Vesey, and Ryan Lindgren have changed the calculus of the Blueshirts' opening night roster. Panarin is considered day-to-day, but Vesey and Lindgren are both expected to miss opening night and likely beyond, creating two unexpected lineup spot. Various players have made their cases for those spots through the first five preseason games, and tonight could be what makes or breaks beginning the 2024-25 campaign in the city that never sleeps, or the insurance capital of the world.
Player to Watch: Matthew Robertson
Victor Mancini's emergence has been what many expected Robertson, a 2019 second round pick still looking to crack the NHL, to do in training camp, but Robertson will have a chance to state his case tonight. Keep an eye on Robertson as he looks to make a strong final impression before the Rangers make their final round of roster cuts ahead of the season opener.
Enjoy the game!
