Rangers Acquire Rights To Barclay Goodrow From Tampa Bay; Howden Traded To Vegas
The New York Rangers have made a pair of trades prior to today’s 3:00 p.m. expansion draft roster lock, and it certainly wasn’t what everyone was expecting.
OFFICIAL: #NYR have acquired forward Barclay Goodrow from Tampa Bay in exchange for a 7th-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft and have acquired a 4th-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft and defenseman Nick DeSimone from Vegas in exchange for Brett Howden.

As per an official team release, the Rangers acquired the negotiating rights to Barclay Goodrow from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for a 7th-round draft pick in 2022. In an immediate follow up move, New York also traded Brett Howden, who just signed a one-year extension last week, to the Vegas Golden Knights for a 4th-round pick in 2022 and defenseman Nick DeSimone.
The Rangers will now have an exclusive negotiating window prior to the July 28th free agent deadline to get a deal done with Goodrow, if that ends up being in the cards. DeSimone is also a free agent, and was essentially a throw in on Vegas’ end to make their reserve list compliant following the deal.
Assuming no other moves are in the works, it’s expected that the Rangers will use their final defensive protection slot on Libor Hajek.
