Rangers Acquire Chad Ruhwedel from Penguins
While we all wait around to see if the Rangers will add a right winger before this afternoon’s trade deadline, the club has made a more low-profile move in acquiring depth defenseman Chad Ruhwedel from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for a fourth-round pick in 2027.
Ruhwedel, 33, comes to New York carrying a cap hit of $800,000, and is a pending unrestricted free agent. While this is just speculation, his addition for the remainder of this season raises the possibility that the Rangers could move defenseman Zac Jones as part of a deal for a right wing within the next few hours. We’ll see what happens.
