Rangers announce team to face Islanders tomorrow

It’s pretty close to the team that will open the season on October 4th

Tomorrow night the Rangers host the Islanders for what will be the Blueshirts’ 4th preseason game. To face off against the Fighting Lamoriellos the Rangers will send out what looks to be very close the opening night roster.

Some notes and takeaways from this lineup;

  • Artemi Panarin and Kaapo Kakko both draw back in after missing the last couple of games. Panarin slots into that top left wing spot in what will probably be the team’s 1st line come October and Kakko will draw into the 2nd right wing role next to Vitali Kravtsov and Brett Howden.
  • Speaking of young Mr. Howden; he’ll start the night in the top six between the aforementioned Kakko and Kravtsov and this seems to be a “show me” move by the coaching staff to see something positive from the 21 year old center.
  • Brendan Lemieux makes his preseason debut after ending his offseason holdout by re-signing with the Rangers.
  • Adam Fox gets saddled with Marc Staal, which seems mean.
  • The Rangers are gonna need Jacob Trouba and Brady Skjei to work and the coaching staff is giving them all the time they can want to figure everything out. /

This should be a rather interesting game in terms of evaluation and projecting the opening night lineup. It should also be fun to get a sneak peak of what that 1st line can do in a game setting.
