Boyko was the Rangers 4th round pick in the 2021 draft and has spent most of his time since then playing for the Kelowna Rockets in the WHL. He signed his professional contract with the Rangers last fall, and was going to join the organization once his final junior season came to a close. With the Rockets losing to the Seattle Thunderbirds in the playoffs that time is now.

The Wolf Pack very recently qualified for the AHL playoffs and are led in net by Louis Domingue and Dylan Garand, so the question of where Boyko fits in (despite his size) is a valid one. He'll more than likely begin practicing with the squad as he's there in case of injury and mostly to learn as the Wolf Pack embark on a hopefully fruitful postseason run.
