Rangers Battle Back But Fall In Overtime Against Flyers

The New York Rangers almost completed the comeback tonight, but were unable to get the job done, and fell to the Philadelphia Flyers by a final score of 4-3. About midway through the second period, the Flyers had a rather commanding 3-0 lead following a trio of goals within four minutes. Jordan Weal, Jakub Voracek, and Travis Konecny all scored for the Flyers and things were looking pretty grim for the Rangers.

However, the Rangers continued to claw away at the Flyers and they eventually found a way to get back into this game. Ryan Graves started the scoring parade after receiving a beautiful centering feed from J.T. Miller and ripping it over Steve Mason’s blocker hand.

That 3-1 deficit carried over into the third period, until Brandon Pirri converted off of a giveaway and wired one past Steve Mason. With a little under 10 minutes remaining in regulation, the Rangers caught another gift from the Flyers and Jimmy Vesey evened up the game at three. Derek Stepan caught a misguided pass from Steve Mason behind the net, and found Vesey cutting to the net almost immediately.

Obviously this games don’t count just yet, but to see the Rangers continually battling back from big deficits is a sight to see. They ultimately fell short against the Devils  and against tonight against the Flyers, but the effort is certainly there. The Rangers had an opportunity to take this game in overtime, but Jakub Voracek completely out worked the Rangers and slipped home the game winner at 0:27 seconds of OT.

The Rangers will have a short layover after tonight’s game and will be right back in action tomorrow night against the New York Islanders. Being that they head back for another game tomorrow, the Rangers immediately cut eight players after tonight’s game.

There weren’t any real surprises, as all of the players were destined for Hartford at some point.
