Prospects Gabriel Fontaine, Tim Gettinger, John Gilmour, and Ryan Gropp have been assigned to the Hartford Wolf Pack. Gettinger played for the Rangers last night against the New York Islanders, but saw only 8:17 TOI. The 20-year-old scored a goal against the New Jersey Devils on Sept. 24. Gettinger had 69 points in 66 games last season in the OHL with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.
Bobby Butler and Drew Melanson, who were with the team on a try-out basis, have been released and will join the Wolf Pack’s training camp. Melanson, a New Jersey native, is 23 and played five games with the Wolf Pack last season. Butler, 31, played with Team USA at the Pyeongchang Olympics and scored 45 points in 67 games last season in the AHL with the Milwaukee Admirals.
Gilmour is likely the biggest name to get the axe today. He played 28 games with the Rangers and was an AHL All-Star last season. But the speedy defenseman had a very rocky preseason that included a costly turnover behind the net on Sept. 19 against the Flyers. This will be his third season in Hartford with the Wolf Pack.
The Rangers wrap up their 2018 preseason tonight in Philadelphia against the Flyers.
