Rangers fall in game three; McDonagh makes his return; Coach's challenge strikes again
Today's New York Rangers notes
The Rangers were looking to ride momentum from their game two win in Pittsburgh, as they took the series to Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night. While a familiar face made an important return to the lineup, it was not enough to hold off their Metropolitan rivals. And now, your morning notes.
The Rangers suffered a tough loss in game three, after the Penguins scored three unanswered goals (one empty-netter) to take a 2-1 series lead while regaining home ice advantage. New York is now 3-7 in game threes since the 2013 playoffs. Here are some recaps. [Blueshirt Banter] [Newsday] [ESPN] [NHL] [The Record] [Blueshirts United] [NY Post]
After a day full of speculation on whether the Rangers' captain would play, Ryan McDonagh made his return to the lineup since missing the last five games with a right hand injury. Despite finishing minus one on the night, McDonagh did not seem to have lost his stride, leading New York in ice time.
Dylan McIlrath and Raphael Diaz were scratched due to McDonagh's return.
The coach' challenge struck again, as what looked to be Chris Kreider's opening goal was deemed to be offside upon review. The Rangers were not bitter following the call though. [Newsday]
