Rangers Land Jimmy Vesey
It’s official: the New York Rangers have signed the 2016 Hobey Baker winner and free agent forward Jimmy Vesey, formerly of Harvard University (NCAA). Vesey became an unrestricted free agent on August 16th, with several teams vying for his services.
Terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed, but it’s a good bet he will receive the maximum limits an NHL entry-level contracts permits ($925,000 per year in base salary, and up to $2.85 million in performance bonuses, for two years).
This signing comes nearly two years to the date from which Kevin Hayes similarly signed with the Rangers, after similarly waiting until August free agency to test the market following a prolific collegiate hockey career.
