Rangers Radar: Huska and Keane Both Hot for Hartford

Shesterkin isn’t the only goalie stealing the show for the Wolf Pack

It’s time for another installment of Blueshirt Banter’s Rangers Radar, where we focus the spotlight on trends in performance, production, and collect notes on players in the New York Rangers organization.

New York Rangers

  • Tony DeAngelo now has eight points in his last 10 games — four of which have been goals. DeAngelo is now tied for fourth in goals and ninth in points (12) among NHL defenseman. Excluding Brendan Smith, DeAngelo has as many goals (5) as the rest of the Rangers’ defense combined.
  • Future Hall of Famer Henrik Lundqvist stopped 45 of the 47 shots he faced from the Carolina Hurricanes last night. Lundqvist has made 40 or more saves in three of his eight starts in the 2019-20 season. Last year, he made 40 or more saves in five of his 52 starts. He now has a .922 save percentage and a 3.03 GAA./
  • Winger Artemiy Panarin has goals in his last three games and points in nine of his last 10 games. He leads the Rangers in goals (8) and points (16) and is averaging 20:15 TOI/GP.
  • Finnish rookie Kaapo Kakko registered his first multi-point game against the Ottawa Senators on Nov. 4. Kakko has now played in five-straight games without being on the ice when the opposing team has scored an even strength goal; he was on the ice for 12 even strength goals against in his first 10 games of the season.
  • After starting the season with two points in 10 games, Brendan Lemieux has points in each of his last three games, including his first goal of the season (scored on the power play against Carolina). Lemieux had six points in 19 games with the Rangers last season after he was acquired from the Winnipeg Jets./

Hartford Wolf Pack

  • The Wolf Pack have now dropped three games in a row after suffering back-to-back shootout losses to Laval Rocket and the Belleville Senators.
  • Defenseman Joey Keane now has six goals in his first 11 games of AHL hockey. Keane has yet to go more than two games without scoring a goal and is tied for second on the team in primary points (7). He’s the AHL’s leading goal scorer among defenseman and has two more goals than his closest competitor (Cameron Schilling)./
  • Veteran defenseman Nick Ebert scored his first goal as a member of the New York Rangers organization on Saturday, Nov. 2 against Belleville. Ebert added a primary assist earlier in the game for his first point as a member of the Wolf Pack. The Rangers acquired Ebert in the deal that sent Vladislav Namestnikov to the Ottawa Senators.
  • Finnish forward Ville Meskanen earned his first point of the season by picking up the primary assist on Ebert’s goal. Meskanen, 24, had 34 points with the Wolf Pack in 70 games last year, which was good for fifth on the team in scoring.
  • Goaltender Adam Huska has posted a .939 save percentage in his last four starts with the Wolf Pack. Huska now has a .925 Sv% and a 1.93 GAA in five starts with Hartford. He joined the Wolf Pack late last year and posted a .889 Sv% in eight starts./

Other Rangers Prospects

  • Cornell’s Morgan Barron (2017 Draft, 174th overall) had back-to-back two-point games to start his junior season with the Big Red. Barron is coming off of a 34-point sophomore season. He and defenseman Sam Malinksi (undrafted) share the scoring lead for Cornell through the first two games of their 2019-20 season.
  • Vitali Kravtsov (2018 Draft, 9th overall) is averaging 19:33 TOI/GP through two games with Traktor. He scored a goal and put six SOG on Nov. 2 against Avtomobilist. Last season, Kravtsov had 21 points in 50 games with Traktor./
  • Defenseman K’Andre Miller (2018 Draft, 22nd overall) has points in two of his last three games with Wisconsin, one of which was a goal. Miller, 19, has three goals in eight games with the Badgers to start the 2019-20 season; he scored five goals in 26 games.
  • Hunter Skinner (2019 Draft, 112th overall) is currently tied for ninth among OHL defensemen in scoring. Skinner, 18, has points in seven of his last nine games and has five points in his last three games. Skinner is also second among skaters on the London Knights in PIM (19) and third among Knights d-men in SOG (29)./
