The Rangers are still without Mats Zuccarello, Vlad Namestnikov, Pavel Buchnevich, and Cody McLeod. They’ve added Gettinger, Steven Fogarty, Vinni Lettieri, and now Beleskey in their absence.
Gettinger has earned 11 points in 20 games with the Wolf Pack, but in his four games with the Rangers. he was held off the scoresheet.
Beleskey has 9 points in 14 games in Hartford. He was sent down after returning from a shoulder injury suffered in preseason. Had he remained healthy in preseason, it’s possible he would have stayed with the Rangers to add his edge and secondary scoring to the fourth line; McLeod won the ‘grinder’ position once Beleskey sustained an injury.
While his 2017-18 season was so disappointing in Boston, especially considering his steep cap hit, he finished the year in the AHL — first in Providence, then in Hartford after being traded to the Rangers. His 2016-17 season, which was all spent at the NHL level, wasn’t too inspiring either. Before that though, he’s shown that he can not only bring a physical presence — something that this coaching staff covets — but scoring as well. His career high is 37 points in 80 games in 2015-16. The question is if he can rediscover that aspect of his game.
