Rangers Recall Brett Berard, Assign Mancini and Ruhwedel to Hartford Wolf Pack
The New York Rangers have recalled Brett Berard from the Hartford Wolf Pack, and the hope is that their minor league affiliate's best player can add a spark.
Berard has skated in 16 games for the Wolf Pack this season, and in that time has scored 7 goals and assisted on 6 others for 13 points. He had an impressive preseason, but it made season to assign him to the minor where he'd get top line minutes.
The Rangers are returning home from a disappointing road trip in which they split the trip with wins in Seattle and Vancouver, but lost in Calgary and Edmonton. The final two games saw the Rangers get out shot 40 to 34 against the Oilers, and 49-29 vs. the Flames.
In order to make room for Berard on the roster, the Rangers returned the recently recalled Victor Mancini, who dressed in place of a banged up Zac Jones, and veteran rear guard Chad Ruhwedel who'd joined the team prior to the start of the road trip seemingly as an insurance policy in the event of an injury.
The Rangers are back in action on Monday against the St. Louis Blues, and we should get a sense of who he will be in the lineup for tomorrow. Chris Kreider left the game for a brief period on Saturday, it is possible he's a bit banged up.
Kaapo Kakko has been briefly used as a center recently, so there's a chance Berard draws in for Jonny Brodzinski. We don't know for sure, but we know that the Rangers aren't happy with how things have gone so they are mixing things up.
