The New York Rangers will be without Igor Shesterkin for their final game before the league breaks for the 4-Nations Face-Off. Shesterkin was already set to backup Jonathan Quick against the Columbus Blue Jackets, but Dylan Garand has been recalled in his place, and the Rangers' star netminder will spend the next two weeks recovering at home.

Rangers have recalled Dylan Garand from the Hartford Wolf Pack to back up Jonathan Quick tonight in Columbus. Igor Shesterkin has suffered an upper-body injury and is projected to return in 1-2 weeks, which should mean he'll be ready after the 4 Nations break.

Shesterkin looked to be in some discomfort during Friday's game after a shot hit him in the blocker and he proceeded to drop down during a goalmouth scramble. He was seen rotating his right blocker hand, but he remained in for the remainder of what as a 3-2 loss.

The Rangers return to action after a two-week break, and hopefully that's all that Shesterkin will need to feel better.

Garand joins the team in the midst of his best season since joining the Hartford Wolf Pack, and has a 2.68 goals against average and .913 save percentage in 23 games this season. He's also sporting a record of 12-7-4, and coming off a season in which he went 16-17-5 with a 3.03 goals against average and .898 save percentage.

The Rangers drafted Garand in the fourth round of the 2020 draft, and in all likelihood he will be the understudy to Shesterkin next fall on Broadway. He's a prospect that is held in regard by the organization, and one who think he'll see some NHL game action at some point later in the season if the Blueshirts are out of playoff contention.
