Rangers Recall Jake Leschyshyn From Hartford
Following the announcement that Brennan Othmann would be returning to Hartford, we knew the Rangers were due to make a corresponding roster move. While Kaapo Kakko has been slowly becoming more of a participant in practice, it’s become pretty clear that the Rangers want to treat his return with caution and patience.
That being said, the Rangers have recalled forward Jake Leschyshyn from the Hartford Wolf Pack. Leschyshyn was claimed on waivers by the Rangers from Vegas almost exactly one year ago. In 13 games with the Rangers last season, Leschyshyn put up a whole lot of nothing on a fourth line role, with only a -3 to show for. In two preseason games with the Rangers at the beginning of this season, he registered an assist in two games played.
This year, in just 14 games played with the Wolf Pack, he has registered six points split evenly between goals and assists. Most recently, with a two goal game against the Hershey Bears at the start of this past weekend. He has dealt with an injury that kept him out for a couple of weeks but given his efforts over the weekend, appears to be good to go.
The Rangers did some experimenting with limited players in practice today so it’s unclear what the lines will look like come Thursday Night. Leschyshyn will likely slot in on the wing of the fourth line but could take his natural position down the middle if the Rangers opt to move Barclay Goodrow back to the wing.
