Hajek was acquired by the Rangers last season at the trade deadline in the deal that saw Ryan McDonagh and J.T. Miller sent to the Tampa Bay Lightning for a combination of picks and prospects (including Hajek). Larry Brooks reports that he was “the player [the Rangers] had to have in the deal.”
The Lightning originally selected Hajek in the second round of the 2016 NHL Draft. The 21-year-old defenseman has had a tough season in Hartford but he still holds potential. Through 58 AHL games Hajek has recorded five assists and in his final year in the WHL he registered 39 points in 58 games. It will be a good opportunity to see how he fares against NHL competition when he gets his chance in the lineup.
