Rangers Place Shesterkin on IR, Recall Louis Domingue

As Roberto pointed out this morning, there was some uncertainty as to why the Rangers were bringing in an additional goaltender on an Amateur Tryout with the Hartford Wolf Pack. As more information came out, it had to do in part with Dylan Garand being listed as day-to-day but there is more to the story now.

The Rangers have just called up Louis Domingue from Hartford as it appears that Igor Shesterkin is being placed on IR.

While it is unclear what the injury entails exactly, it's worth noting that Sam Bennett did crash hard into Shesterkin after taking a hit from Ryan Lindgren early in the third period of last night's 5-3 loss in Florida. While Igor stayed in the game, that very well could be a factor in this. Per the CBA, Igor will miss a minimum of seven days by going on IR which includes the next three games (vs. Boston, @ Washington and @ Chicago) for the Rangers. He will be eligible to return on January 7th when the Rangers host the Dallas Stars.
