Rangers Recall Matthew Robertson From Hartford
The Rangers have had a busy couple of days in terms of roster moves. In addition to sending Brennan Othmann back to Hartford and calling up Jake Leschyshyn in his place, the Rangers have also announced tonight that Defenseman Matthew Robertson will be joining the team. This move comes as a bit of a surprise however, Rangers Captain Jacob Trouba has been absent from the team’s last two practices as he and his wife are expecting their first child. With Robertson getting the call, there could be a chance that Trouba does not make the trip to St. Louis for tomorrow night’s game.
A former second round pick in 2019, Matthew Robertson is currently in his third full season with the Hartford Wolf Pack. In 30 games played this year, he has registered 2 goals and 11 assists for a total of 13 points. Robertson looked solid in two preseason games with the Rangers at the beginning of the year and is coming off a career high season at the AHL level with 23 points. That’s more than double the points he put up in his rookie season in less games played.
Here’s Robertson with a pretty assist on a Brandon Scanlin goal for the Wolf Pack against the Bridgeport Islanders at the end of December:
This roster move is likely a precaution as Zac Jones should be the one to slot in If Trouba is indeed unable to make the trip to St. Louis.
