Rangers Recall Matthew Robertson from Hartford Wolf Pack
On the road out west, and with three games in four nights the Rangers are playing it safe. They announced today they’re recalling Matthew Robertson from the Hartford Wolf Pack.
While there hasn’t been any more information revealed as to what prompted the team to make this move, per Vince Mercogliano, it can be assumed one of the Rangers’ defenders is banged up and the team is playing it safe. While Robertson is getting the chance to practice with his NHL squad, it’s unlikely he’ll slot in to see some actual ice time as the team has had Zac Jones waiting in the wings for these types of scenarios.
Robertson has taken on a bigger role with the Wolf Pack this year, and his 13 points in 32 games is pretty much matching his career best .4 points per game pace he had with the AHL team last year. The smooth skating defender wasn’t exactly known for his offensive prowess, but he’ll need to continue his growth with the team in order to get a real shot at the NHL, especially with the backlog of defensive prospects and players the team has had.
We’re bound to learn more as the Rangers resume their road trip Saturday night in LA, and if we’re lucky enough perhaps we’ll even see Robertson’s NHL regular season debut!
