Rangers Sign Chad Ruhwedel to One-Year Contract

The offseason of minor signings continues as Drury looks to wrap up his NHL defensive depth by signing Chad Ruhwedel to a one-year contract for the NHL minimum.

The Rangers inked Ruhwedel to a two-way contract to ensure maximum maneuverability aside from the Trouba fiasco. Ruhwedel split the season between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the New York Rangers after he was acquired at the deadline. He played 52 games in total, with all his points, one goal, and three assists, scored for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Ruhwedel is a good depth signing and will be a solid option in case of any injury or complications throughout the regular season. There has not been much official news on any potential Trouba trade besides an unofficial rumor involving the Buffalo Sabres, so it's safe to say the Rangers will be running it back with most of the same squad.

The only downside to this signing is it could be a blocker for Zac Jones to see some actual ice time this season, however competition for players to earn roster spots is never an objectively bad thing.
