Rangers Vs. Blues Recap: Rangers Continue To Roll With 6-3 Victory Over St. Louis

The New York Rangers don't appear to be slowing down anytime soon.

After a fairly lopsided win against the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday evening, the Rangers faced tough matchup tonight against the St. Louis Blues. Fueled by Mats Zuccarello's three point night, the Rangers defeated the Blues 6-3 and handed St. Louis just their fourth regulation loss of the season. Despite giving up three goals tonight, Henrik Lundqvist was solid once again, and turned this game in the Rangers favor with a ridiculous diving stick save during the first period.

The Rangers started off this game with a bang, and chased Jake Allen with three goals on five shots within the first 14 minutes of regulation. The first goal came courtesy of Derick Brassard, who deposited a beautiful pass from Mats Zuccarello behind the net, and gave the Rangers an early 1-0 lead. A little over two minutes later, Mats Zuccarello notched his second point of the game after he danced around Jay Bouwmeester and rifled a shot over Allen's shoulder.

As if the first two goals weren't pretty enough, Kevin Hayes, Viktor Stalberg and Oscar Lindberg one-upped Brassard/Zuccarello, and gave the Rangers a 3-0. Lindberg got things started with an amazing tip pass in the neutral zone, and sent the puck over to Stalberg on the right boards. Hayes was able to create himself some space, and Stalberg hit him with a quick pass to spring Hayes on a breakaway.

After a few quick moves, Hayes faked Allen to the ground and slipped the puck under his pad before he was able to react. That wound up being the end of Allen's night, and Brian Elliott came in to relieve him of his duties for the evening. Nearing the end of the period, Dmitrij Jaskin finally got the Blues on the board and made this a 3-1 game heading into the second period.

Even though the Rangers had a two goal lead, the Blues had all of the momentum and it clearly showed coming out of the intermission. Vladimir Taranseko was able to bring the Blues back within a goal by backing down Dan Girardi, and bombing a wrist shot past Lundqvist from the left faceoff dot. In a game that featured a ton of highlight reel goals, Taransenko's was certainly another one added to the list.

Five minutes after Tarasenko made this a game, J.T. Miller smoked a onetimer from the point, and sent the puck off of Jori Lehtera's skate. Elliott was unable to react to the last minute deflection in front of the crease, and Miller was able to give the Rangers a 4-2 lead. The Blues weren't going to go down with a fight though, and Troy Brouwer made it a 4-3 game with a little under six minutes remaining in the second period.

The Rangers needed a big third period if they wanted to come away with two points, and sure enough, they made the most of their opportunities. Ryan McDonagh tallied an early power play goal on a point shot, and put the Rangers back in control by giving them a 5-3 lead. Dan Girardi was able to eventually ice the game late in the game by scoring on the empty net, and gave the Rangers a 6-3 victory.

The Rangers have now won seven straight games to improve to 12-2-2 on the season, and they will be back in action on Saturday against the Ottawa Senators.
