Rangers vs. Bruins: Rangers Respond With 4-0 Shutout Win In Boston
The New York Rangers flipped the script this afternoon and got their revenge as they shutout the Boston Bruins by a final score of 4-0. Artemiy Panarin, who missed the previous nine games while attending to personal matters, returned this afternoon and made an immediate impact for the Rangers. Keith Kinkaid got the start against the Bruins with Alexandar Georgiev’s struggles continuing, and he turned in an 18-save shutout bid.

Looking to right their wrongs from Thursday, the Rangers came out on a mission early in the first period. Their early pressure gave the Bruins some trouble, and K’Andre Miller eventually put the Rangers out in front just 3:06 into the game. A key offensive zone faceoff win by Mika Zibanejad allowed the Rangers to set up, and K’Andre Miller was able to put a shot on goal from just inside the blue line. Chris Kreider did excellent work in front of the net by providing a textbook screen, and Jaroslav Halak never caught a glimpse of the puck as it sailed by him.
2nd Period

New York continued to control a good portion of the play in the offensive zone and that led to their second goal of the afternoon. After gaining the blue line, Pavel Buchnevich made a great play along the boards to keep the puck alive and fed it back to Jacob Trouba. Trouba immediately found Mika Zibanejad down low below the goal line with space, and Mika lofted a ridiculous soft pass to the middle of the slot. Chris Kreider was streaking down the middle of the ice, skated onto the perfectly placed pass and wired a snap shot over the shoulder of Jaroslav Halak. It was just beautiful puck movement by all the players involved, and the Rangers held a two-goal lead heading into the third period of play.
3rd Period
Ryan Strome (10) - Artemiy Panarin (14) & Colin Blackwell (4) - 8:03

The Rangers were 20 minutes away from closing out a big win in Boston, but they continued to pressure the Bruins in the offensive zone. Colin Blackwell started the chance by putting a puck towards the net, and generated a rebound by the right corner boards. Artemiy Panarin, who didn’t miss much of a beat after returning from his nine game absence, turned the puck around and fed a crisp pass back across the crease. Ryan Strome was in perfect position to receive the pass and tapped it home just inside the left post to give New York a 3-0 lead.

With a little under four minutes remaining in the game, Pavel Buchnevich added another insurance marker from just inside the hashmarks. Chris Kreider was able to force the defender into make a tough play, and the puck wound up sliding into open ice. Buchnevich was able to step down from the top of the circle and snapped a quick wrist shot under the crossbar. Jaroslav Halak was clearly displeased with the lack of awareness in front of his net, and New York iced the game with their fourth goal of the afternoon.
After what we witnessed the previous two games, the Rangers played as well of a game as they have all season. They were ready to go right from the opening puck drop, and kept the Bruins in check with solid play in the defensive zone. New York’s top players led the charge today, and they’ll need more of that if they look to make a run at one of the four postseason spots.
Following an impressive win in Boston, the Rangers will return back home for a two-game set against the Philadelphia Flyers at Madison Square Garden on Monday evening.
