Rangers vs. Bruins: Scoring Issues Continue As Bruins Shutout Rangers

The New York Rangers dropped their third straight game this evening as they were shutout by the Boston Bruins 1-0 at Madison Square Garden. New York’s scoring woes continued yet again tonight and this marks the second time in three games that they put up zero goals on the scoreboard. It’s certainly been a battle over the last several games, and Jaroslav Halak gave the Rangers fits tonight with his 21-save shutout.

1st Period

No scoring.

2nd Period

Nick Ritchie (5) - David Krejci (10) & Jeremy Lauzon (3) - 9:27

After a fairly back and forth first period, the Bruins were able to turn up their intensity and took it to the Rangers in the second period. Igor Shesterkin played out of his mind throughout the middle frame, but it was Nick Ritchie breaking the scoreless tie at the 9:27 mark. The rush that eventually lead to the goal was well defended by the Rangers but Ritchie was able to get his own rebound and somehow banked the puck in off of Shesterkin. It was an unfortunate break for New York and Ritchie’s goal held up as the game-winning goal.

3rd Period

No scoring.

The Bruins are regarded as one of the better defensive teams in the NHL, and we saw that again tonight with their suffocating style of play. It’s not to say that the Rangers are playing terrible, and in fact, it’s been quite the opposite as of late. They’re simply running into hot goaltenders, combined with some of their top players working out of lengthy scoring droughts. It seems like this has become a trend throughout every game, and at some point, the dam needs to eventually break.

With the game against the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday postponed, the Rangers will be off until Tuesday night when they matchup with the New Jersey Devils.
