Rangers vs. Capitals: Power Outage

This game was entertaining. Which isn't the same as saying it was good. But in the end, it was another Rangers loss.

  • I'll be up front with you: I missed the very beginning of this game because these early noon(ish) start times on Saturdays mean the games overlap with the end of my son's youth hockey game. His team won 6-3, if you're interested. It was arguably a more enjoyable game to watch.
  • Imagine, then, my surprise to come home and turn on the game to see that the Rangers had staked themselves to a relatively early lead on a goal from Chris Kreider. That's great! And, then I saw the replay:
  • Look, a goal is a goal is a goal. Far be it from me to complain about one that was gift-wrapped for the Rangers by, in this case, Logan Thompson trying to pass the puck to ... I'm not actually all that sure who. It does serve as a reminder that what Igor Shesterkin is able to do playing the puck is so special. Most goaltenders don't attempt those kind of long breakout passes because, well, what you saw above. But, hey, at least for Thompson it could be worse. He only tee'd up Chris Kreider for a goal. It's not like he put the puck directly into his own net or anything like that.
  • Anyway, hey, the Rangers led early in a game against a good division rival, fresh off a rare victory in their last game. Would this be the point where they started to turn this creaking, leaking ship around?
  • Lol, no. You fool. You absolute comic fool!
