Rangers vs Flyers: Rangers Come Out of Break Strong, But Fall to Flyers 1-0

The New York Rangers finally returned to action this evening following a ten day hiatus due to their bye week and the 2019 All-Star Weekend. The Rangers’ fresh legs played a large part in this game as they came out with a strong effort offensively, but unfortunately, were unable to beat Anthony Stolarz on the scoreboard. Stolarz turned away all 38 shots he faced this evening, as the Rangers fell to the Philadelphia Flyers which snapped their three-game winning streak.

1-0 Flyers
Oskar Lindblom (6) - Sean Courturier (21) & Jakub Voracek (29) - 1:40 1st Period

The only goal in this game came just 1:40 into regulation as the Flyers collapsed around the Rangers’ net and were able to chip home a loose puck. Alexandar Georgiev turned away two previous chances by Sean Couturier and Jakub Voracek, but it was Oskar Lindblom who finally finished off the play by flipping it over the goaltender. There were a ton of bodies in front of Georgiev went the final shot came in on net, and it flipped over his glove to give the Flyers their only lead of the evening.

The Rangers also ran into a bit of injury trouble tonight as Brett Howden left the game early in the game with a knee sprain, as reported by the team. He will be re-evaluated tomorrow, but should he miss any time, there’s a good chance either Mats Zuccarello or Pavel Buchnevich return to the lineup to take Howden’s spot.

Following tonight’s shutout loss to the Flyers, the Rangers will have a scheduled off day tomorrow before returning to action on Thursday night against the New Jersey Devils.
