Rangers vs Golden Knights: Rangers Rout Golden Knights in Vegas 5-0
The New York Rangers started off their Western road trip with a very impressive win as they defeated the Vegas Golden Knights 5-0 this evening. Alexandar Georgiev was given the start in goal once again with Henrik Lundqvist still battling some left over symptoms from his illness. Georgiev had another strong start to the game, and backstopped the Rangers to yet another win on the road.

Despite being under pressure for a good portion of the third period, the Rangers finally got their legs going just past the halfway mark. Artemiy Panarin capitalized on a beautiful passing play between Tony DeAngelo and Marc Staal, and gave New York the first lead in this game. After receiving the pass from DeAngelo, Staal found Panarin all alone at the top of the faceoff circle and Panarin beat Malcolm Subban through the legs.
Chris Kreider (7) - Ryan Strome (19) & Ryan Lindgren (6) - 11:17 1st Period
It didn’t take the Rangers very long to build on the momentum from the opening goal, and they immediately scored again just 14 seconds later. Ryan Strome setup Chris Kreider with a gorgeous pass after beating two Vegas players into the zone, and put the puck right on Kreider’s stick. With Kreider also beating his man to the open lane, all he had to do was get a stick on the puck and deflected it past Subban to make it 2-0 Rangers.
2nd Period
Jacob Trouba (5) PPG - Ryan Strome (20) & Adam Fox (11) - 7:14 2nd Period
The Rangers continued to surge in the second period, and Jacob Trouba picked up his fifth goal of the season on the power play. Ryan Strome did a great job of getting a shot on net, and it wound up generating a rebound that kicked out to the right of Malcolm Subban. Jacob Trouba was stationed right off the post, corralled the puck off of his skate, and made it a 3-0 game.

A little over three minutes later, Jacob Trouba was involved in the offense yet again and helped the Rangers extend their lead. Trouba made an excellent read coming in from his right point spot, and saw a wide open lane over to Jesper Fast. The fake slap shot froze up the defenders enough to buy Fast some time, and he roofed a shot over Subban to make it a 4-0 lead for New York.
3rd Period
Mika Zibanejad (7) PPG - Kaapo Kakko (7) & Artemiy Panarin (22) - 15:05 3rd Period
With the Rangers firmly in control of the game, Paul Stastny took an undisciplined hooking call and put the Rangers on the man-advantage. After some crisp puck movement by Artemiy Panarin and Kaapo Kakko, the puck eventually worked its way down to Mika Zibanejad below the goal line. Zibanejad’s attempted pass out front of the net wound up deflecting off of defenseman and in behind Subban to make it 5-0 Rangers.
Overall, the Rangers played a pretty good game on the road against a tough Vegas team. The start to the game was a little slow, but Alexandar Georgiev picked up the slack and gave the Rangers a chance to right the ship. Following tonight’s victory, the Rangers will have a scheduled off day tomorrow before returning to action on Tuesday night against the Los Angeles Kings.
