Two wins in a row against two good teams is good, but it shouldn't be enough to get you back on the Rangers hype train and stop a sell-off.

  • As Sam Rosen exclaimed as the final buzzer sounded last night, in a tone of voice typically reserved for postseason series-clinching wins, The New York Rangers have a two game winning streak! What's more, those two wins are against a very good New Jersey Devils team, who utterly embarrassed the Rangers right before Christmas, and the Vegas Golden Knights, who coming into this game possessed the best record in the league.
  • I think I speak for all of us when I say:
  • A quick personal note: I did not see a minute of the Devils game because I was preoccupied watching my Notre Dame Fighting Irish defeat Penn State to advance to the College Football Playoff National Championship game. I, as I'm sure you'd expect, have zero regrets about that decision. I know Joe said on the latest podcast episode with Ryan Mead that the Rangers are his only team. I have the Yankees (and won't talk about the Giants), but the Irish have an even longer title drought right now than the Rangers do. And now they're one revenge win against Ohio State away from ultimate glory. Here come the Irish!
  • Prior to this game, with Filip Chytil skating in practice but still out with his upper-body injury, the Rangers recalled Bo Groulx from the Hartford Wolf Pack, and sent Brett Berard down. The thinking was the Rangers wanted more options at center with Chytil unlikely to slot back in the lineup just yet. Which makes sense. Berard, however, had been playing well and had been the kind of spark plug this Rangers team had so desperately needed. But, so be it if they need center depth and wanted to give Groulx a look after racking up 29 points in 32 games for the Wolf Pack this season.
