Rangers vs. Jets: Alarm bells ringing
The New York Rangers lost a bad one to Winnipeg. Will changes come because of it?
- As I talked about on our soon-to-be-released podcast from this week: I don't think the Rangers played as poorly in this loss as they have in other games they've won the past few weeks; so it's ironic that this loss is probably what's going to start forcing changes.
- Which is good! The Rangers have been objectively horrible the past three weeks, despite their 9-3-1 record coming into this game. From my vantagepoint, the head coach allowed the return of Ryan Lindgren and Mika Zibanejad being upset (don't tell me they adjusted the forwards for any reason other than to get him going at best or make him happy at worst) to revert to a worse product. The Rangers have both statistical evidence and results from this year that show they are better as previously constructed, and for whatever reason they think this is OK.
- In terms of changes, Zibanejad was relegated back to Kreider and Smith in the third. This has been a temporary move previously so I will hold my breath. That said, I do have some much deeper thoughts on Zibanejad in the next bullet that I think needs to be said.
