Rangers vs Senators: Rangers Shutout by Senators on the Road
1-0 Senators
Drake Batherson (3) - Assists: Matt Duchene (21) & Maxime Lajoie (6)
The Senators struck pretty early in this game as Drake Batherson scored his third goal of the season following a mismatch in front of the Rangers’ net. Ryan Strome wound up giving Batherson just enough space in front and Matt Duchene fed him with a crisp pass that he was able to redirect past Henrik Lundqvist.
2-0 Senators
Magnus Paajarvi (2) - Assists: Zack Smith (6) & Tom Pyatt (2)
Much like the first goal, the Rangers just weren’t covering their assignments and were beat on a 3-on-4 rush coming into their zone. Zack Smith was completely untouched as he crossed the blue line, and so was Magnus Paajarvi as he received a pass. Paajarvi was able to walk in pretty much uncontested and ripped a shot through Henrik Lundqvist to make it a 2-0 game late in the first period.
3-0 Senators
Matt Duchene (12) - Assists: Drake Batherson (4) & Ryan Dzingel (8)
The Duchene, Batherson and Dzingel line was clicking all night long, and they absolutely abused the Rangers yet again on a ridiculous passing play in the offensive zone. The puck moved around so quickly that the Rangers didn’t know who to cover, and it was finished off with the pass from Batherson over to Duchene for the easy tap-in. Lundqvist didn’t stand much of a chance, and was left out to dry by his defense with their lack of coverage.
The Rangers didn’t have much life in this game at all, but they will have an opportunity to rebound Saturday night as they meet up with the Montreal Canadiens at the Bell Centre.
