Rangers vs Wild: Rangers Give Up Three Unanswered to Minnesota
Coming off of a close 2-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes, the New York Rangers came back tonight and lost 4-1 to the Minnesota Wild. The Rangers gave up three unanswered goals, including two in the third period, and dropped a tough game on home ice. Pavel Buchnevich picked up the lone Rangers goal in the second period on the power play.

Jared Spurgeon (12) - Eric Staal (21) & Ryan Donato (4) - 15:04 1st Period
The Minnesota Wild came away with the first goal of the game with Jared Spurgeon jamming home a rebound in the crease. After Henrik Lundqvist robbed Eric Staal on the goal line, the puck deflected back to the far side of the net. Jared Spurgeon was waiting right on the far post and slammed home the rebound to make it 1-0 Minnesota.
1-1 Tie - PPG
Pavel Buchnevich (12) - Tony DeAngelo (16) & Ryan Strome (10) - 5:06 2nd Period
It took the Rangers until the second period to find the tying goal and it came courtesy of Pavel Buchnevich. Tony DeAngelo extended his point streak by picking up the primary assist with a beautiful setup by moving the puck down to Buchnevich. Despite fumbling the initial pass, Buchnevich quickly wound up and wired a slap shot through the pads of Devan Dubnyk.
2-1 Wild
Mikael Granlund (15) - Greg Pateryn (4) & Zach Parise (27) - 8:41 2nd Period
A little over three minutes later, Minnesota jumped right back out in front with Mikael Granlund picking up another rebound in front of the net. Granlund completely out-muscled Kevin Shattenkirk for the loose puck, and found a way to chip the puck while falling down. Henrik Lundqvist didn’t stand much of a chance with Granlund absolutely bombing the shot over his shoulder to make it a 2-1 game.
3-1 Wild
Zach Parise (24) - Unassisted - 11:03 3rd Period
Midway through the third period, Minnesota caught a fortunate break as an obvious trip on Eric Staal went uncalled, and gave the Wild a 3-1 lead. Zach Parise was able to jump on the loose puck after Brady Skjei was hauled down, broke in all alone, and tucked the puck in on the backhand.
4-1 Wild
Jordan Greenway (10) - Eric Staal (22) & Ryan Donato (5) - 17:23 3rd Period
Minnesota eventually iced the game with under three minutes remaining in regulation with Jordan Greenway getting the tally.
Following tonight’s loss to the Minnesota Wild, the Rangers will have a scheduled off day tomorrow before returning to action on Saturday afternoon against the New Jersey Devils.
